Home shirt as worn during a change in tenure as Steve Pearce took over from Kevin Keegan. After Keegan’s agreed to depart early due to his desire to retire, Pearce took City on an eight game unbeaten run that would have ended in European football had it not been for Robbie Fowlers missed penalty at home to Middlesbrough on the final day. The following season saw City drop to a 15th place finish. However, fans would take some consolidation in the fact they took crucial points away from cross city rivals United with a 3-1 home win and a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.
